SIMPLE, TRANSPARENT, IN YOUR CONTROL

How HomeCostLab works

Get useful planning quantities and estimates without black-box prices or an account.

1. Describe your project

Pick a calculator and enter dimensions, counts, chosen materials, and other relevant scope details. Choose imperial or metric measurements. The calculator uses those measurements as the source of truth, rather than estimating based on your postal code.

2. Separate measurements from prices

Area, volume, material counts, waste, and purchasing units follow openly documented formulas. If you enter a cost per board, per container, or per square foot, it is treated as your own input in the selected currency. Sample amounts are labelled illustrative, not validated market rates.

3. Study the breakdown

Each calculator displays intermediate quantities, purchased units, material and labor allowances, assumptions, limitations, and a total when relevant. Validation messages flag impossible or invalid inputs. Quantity estimates do not replace manufacturer specifications or professional design.

4. Save and compare

Calculators retain your values in this browser using localStorage. You can bookmark favorites, reopen recently used tools, or save two scenarios to compare. Currency switching does not perform any foreign-exchange conversion. You can copy a text summary or print your report.

5. Verify before buying

Use your supplier's stated coverage, package yield, unit rates, current quotes, and local tax rules. Check permits, accessibility, site condition, disposal, and contingency. HomeCostLab does not certify estimates or building designs.
